Clements, Bohn and Lucas Find Victory Lane for the First Time of the Season

STANLEY, NC — July 10, 2010 — East Lincoln Speedway hosted its 2nd Annual Mid-Season Points Championships this Saturday Night. Track owners Ray Evernham and Bob Mack, along with World Of Outlaws Sprint Car Series star Erin Crocker were on hand to watch all of the night’s racing action. There was a lot at stake across all six divisions as the evening was also Double Points Night.  Fans were treated to another night of beautiful weather and close racing action at East Lincoln Speedway.

The races got underway as the Stock Four division took the green flag for the first of six feature races of the evening. While Adam Vandiver started on the pole, it was David Lucas, who started on the outside of the front row, that would jump out to the early lead. Lucas took a lead that he would never relinquish as he would lead every lap en route to victory. It was in no way an easy win for Lucas, as he would have to survive a number of restarts including a green-white-checkered finish at the end of the race to claim his victory. The right rear tire of Adam Vandiver came apart coming out of turn four to take the checkered flag. Nonetheless, he was able to hold off Lee Oiler for the second position. Oiler crossed the line third. Barney Fuller finished fourth in his second race of the season and Hank Kiefer was able to grab the final position in the top five.

The Micro Sprint division fielded a strong 14 car field. On lap three Robert Clements made his way under Brian Roseman to claim the lead. Both cars got sideways in turn three and for a brief moment it looked as if neither was going to make it out of the corner without wrecking. However, both drivers showed excellent car control as they were able to keep their cars off one another. Clements pulled out to a four car length lead and Brian Roseman was running a strong second when he would spin to bring out the first caution of the night.  Justin Lineman tried hard to extend his winning streak to three in a row; but he couldn’t seem to make his way up to battle for the top position. A Chuck Puckett spin would erase Clements’ lead and set up a green-white-checkered finish. Clements was able to hold off a hard charging Rick Goss for the win. Several cars would get together on the final lap of the race. Robert Elms, Kyle Wilson, Shawn McElroy and Terry Peters would all get a piece of the incident. While Clements and Goss took the top two positions, Coby Adams, Justin Lineman, and Darren Hasty finished third, fourth and fifth respectively. In victory lane, Clements would thank Brian Roseman for racing him clean as the two battled for the top position early on.

A $600 top prize provided the drivers of the Open Wheel Modified Division with an extra incentive to take home the checkered flag. Danny Bohn debuted a new gold paint scheme as he started on the pole. Points Leader Kyle Strickler started second and the two drivers battled hard for the lead in the early portion of the race. A late race restart provided Strickler with one last chance to start on Bohn’s bumper. The two continued to put on a great race until Strickler’s car would slow on the race track and drop to the back of the pack. Bohn was able to win with an impressive lead over second place finisher Taylor Cook. In victory lane, Bohn noted the importance of protecting the bottom of the racetrack in his hard fought battle with Strickler. The win, combined with a tough night for Strickler, allowed Bohn to move within 53 points of first place in the season standings. Everette Dunlap, Robert Moser,  and Manuel Johnson rounded out the top five in that order.

Arnold Propst started on the pole, but would have trouble on the start and drop back to the middle of the pack in the Super Stock Four division feature. Randy Powell was racing Gary Fiormanti side by side for the third position when Brad Williams decided to make the battle three wide. Meanwhile, it was a two car breakaway up front as Josh Cook and Jennings Herman raced nose to tail for the race lead. Cook slid up on the exit of turn two and got into the backstretch wall. Further back in the pack, Dylan O’Daniel and Arnold Propst traded some paint racing for the sixth position. Brad Williams had a strong car as he was able to catch and pass Cook on the outside to take away the second position. A late race caution would wave for a flat right front tire on the #55 of Darryl Roark. Herman was able to maintain the lead on the restart and went on to win the race. Brad Williams finished second. Josh Cook finished third and Randy Powell edged out Gary “Peshi” Fiormanti for the fourth position.

The Limited Sportsman division always promises to be an exciting show at East Lincoln Speedway and Saturday Night was no different. An early caution came out as Jonathan Jennings, who had started on the pole and was running in the top five, got loose in turn four and came up the racetrack. Keith Bowman was unable to avoid the spinning car of Jennings and made hard contact as his nose hit hard into Jennings door. The damage was pretty substantial to Jennings and he retired to the pits for the rest of the evening. On a restart after a yellow for a flat right rear tire on Trace Childers’ car, Brandon White found himself leading a three way battle for the lead between himself, Jeff Graves and Ronnie White. Ronnie White made slight contact with Brandon White, but the incident would be enough to spin Brandon, who collected Graves as well. As a result of the spin, Graves and Brandon were sent to the back of the field and Ronnie White was penalized for aggressive driving and also sent to the rear. This set up an interesting scenario as some of the fastest cars in the field now found themselves trailing it. As a result of the incident, Blane Huffman inherited the lead, which he was able to keep from Richard Smith on the restart.  Making his way through the field, Brandon White quickly raced his way up to the third position. He was able to pass Smith for second before a caution would put him on Huffman’s bumper. Also making his way through the traffic was Ronnie White, who was now in the third position. Huffman wasn’t able to hold off Brandon White as White reclaimed the lead he lost just a few laps ago. White’s spin and win provided the fans with an excellent show. It has been a storybook year for White who now has eight victories this season. Blane Huffman finished second and Ronnie White got the better of Jeff Graves in the fight for the third position. Keith Bowman was able to salvage a fifth place finish after being involved in the first wreck of the evening.

The final race of the evening put the Renegade Division of the grid. Jamie Major wanted to win back to back badly as he passed Tyler Hyatt on the outside of turn two to take the lead on lap one. Later, Mark Woody was able to find his way around Major for the race lead. A few laps later, Major got loose in turn three and contact with Todd Bolin resulted in a multi car incident also involving Brain Toler and Danny Garcia. After the incident Woody restarted in the first position, Steve Newsome in the second, and, with heavy damage from an earlier incident, Scottie Holden was in third. It was a tough night for Tyler Hyatt as he would spin and bring out the yellow flag after starting on the pole. Brain Toler and Tommy Campbell rubbed fenders several times as they raced for sixth. The caution came out as Holden, who was running a strong second at the time, spun in turn three. With no shortage of action behind him, Woody was able to hold off Steve Newsome to take the checkered flag. Ronald Pope, Jamie Major and Todd Bolin were all able to claim top five finishes as they crossed the line in that order.

Next week East Lincoln Speedway will be hosting the Timken Twin Renegade features. There will also be a bonus, non-points race in the Open Wheel Modified division. A special inversion will be used to set the starting lineup for this race and bonuses will be available based on the inversion. Since there will be two Renegade feature races, there will be seven total feature races next weekend. Timken Night should prove to be another exciting summer evening at East Lincoln Speedway.
